Only In Thought

“It is not irritating to be where one is. It is only irritating to think one would like to be somewhere else.” (I laugh every time I read that.)
-John Cage
A problem is a thought you care about.
You wake in the morning and notice your first thought, perhaps, “What day is it? It’s Tuesday.” So far so good. Then the next thought, “Ahh crap, today is my doctor’s appointment.”
Be alert for endless variations of that typically unconscious habit.
When you realize deeply, for the first time, that it’s only your way of thinking that disturbs you, you’ll have a good laugh.
Thereafter, when difficulty appears, you will always know where to look… Never farther than your thoughts.
In the witnessing of disturbing thoughts is freedom from them.
Train to know you are aware. Mentally pause, and be the stillness in the pause.
