All I Need
Enos family reunion, Clearwater FL. We managed to pull it off as a surprise… Mom and dad didn’t know that me, John, Marcy, Dennis, and Clay—planned it in secret.
“The returning of awareness to itself, its remembrance of itself—being aware of being aware—is the essence of meditation and prayer, and the direct path to lasting peace and happiness.”
-Rupert Spira
The brake pads were nearly worn out, so every time I started the car I was greeted by the irritating buzzer. Eventually, however, I stopped noticing it.
Your mind works like that. Unconsciously repeating the same worries, hour after hour, day after day, year after year even—we simply stop noticing worry. As worry fades into the background, it becomes the norm.
The remedy is awareness; the more, the better.
The greatest gift we all possess is the ability to become self-aware.
Add a new goal to daily life. Remind yourself to pause, randomly, and become aware of what you were thinking about.
After planting that seed, at some point, an interesting thing will happen. Without any effort on your part, you’ll suddenly become aware of disturbing thoughts that you were previously unaware of.
When you experience that for the first time, you might hear some sort of happy celebration in your mind.
And you’ll know, all I need is to be more aware.
