Create Peace

“Peace is the absence of disturbance. The disturbance is due to the arising of thoughts in the individual, which is only the ego arising up from pure consciousness.”
-Ramana Maharshi

I saw a sticker: “Create Peace”

Peace cannot be created. Peace exists always, when it’s not hidden by regret or desire.

In wanting anything to be different, you make it worse.

Upon seeing the rings of Saturn through a powerful telescope, there was an immediate sense of deep, eternal peace.

Humans are the only living beings that entertain ideas about the way things should be. When you don’t care about how something should be, it cannot affect you.

Experiment with this daily: The fewer things you want to be different, the happier you naturally are.

Peace is ever-present, and is what you are, when you know you are aware.

Each time you recognize a useless thought, summon a one-breath moment of peace: silently know you are breathing in; silently know you are breathing out.

The secret to peace is a lack of identification with any thought.

When you know you are not thinking, you are aware. When aware, you are undisturbed. When undisturbed, you cannot be improved.

Comments are welcome, and all questions will be answered.

A new topic will arrive each Friday afternoon, in one of two categories. One will be on shooting, and the other will be on living. Or: how I learned to live from what I learned by competing.

Thanks for coming in.
