Don’t Be Fooled

“The most important thing is to be able to enjoy your life without being fooled by things.”
-Shunryu Suzuki

Left to right… Bending Time, by Rodgell; The I of Light, by JJ Horner; and Shunryu Suzuki, dispensing silent wisdom.

“Without being fooled by things” is to not be confused or troubled by any thought or experience.

When you have a problem, rather than remaining personally involved, step out—become the impersonal witness of the experience. Let go of your personality, and all its preferences, for a moment.

As the impersonal witness, thoughts shed their deceptive significance.

The fewer things you take personally the happier you naturally are.
