Go Along
“Running around and accusing others is not as good as laughing, and enjoying a good laugh is not as good as going along with things. Be content to go along and forget about change and then you can enter the mysterious oneness of Heaven.”
-Chuang Tzu
Chuang Tzu’s quotes remind me of Shunryu Suzuki, in that he hits the profound, simply.
Here, he is not addressing global concerns such as race discrimination or war; he is pointing a way to navigate daily life.
“…be content to go along…” You are not “going along” when you resist an experience. To resist is to desire: You want something that you have no control over to be different. Watch your thoughts for an endless supply of examples.
“…forget about change…” Accept what is as it is. Work with it if possible, but if not, let it be. What is, is.
“…the mysterious oneness of heaven…” is to be—without evaluating.
