Leave The Mind Alone

“You are the Self, here and now. Leave the mind alone, stand aware and unconcerned and you will realize that to stand alert but detached, watching events come and go, is an aspect of your real nature.”
-Nisargadatta Maharj

“Leave the mind alone” means to witness thoughts and perceptions without becoming involved with them.

Sit quietly, listen and witness: You notice a sensation … and almost imperceptibly, the mind adds a name to the sensation. For instance, a sensation is noticed, then, “I have to pee.”

Another example… Again, a sensation is recognized, then the mind adds, “I wish my leg didn’t hurt.”

The most intelligent choice you can always make is to continue a thought, or let it go.

The ability to continuously separate helpful thoughts from debilitating thoughts is your greatest asset.

More and more, choose not to be bothered by ideas… Ideas about how anything should be.
