What You Need
“What you need is to be aware of being aware.”
-Nisargadatta Maharaj
An extremely subtle message is hidden in that statement.
“To be aware of being aware” is to be aware of what you actually are: Awareness itself.
But the subtle part … it isn’t “two”—there is not “someone” that is aware of “another” awareness. To be aware of being aware is a non-dualistic state.
The mind, however, cannot comprehend that. So the instruction: “be aware of being aware” is given as a practice, to firmly establish one in non-dual awareness.
Eventually, with sustained practice… the dualistic “I am aware” falls apart, the mind disappears, and everything is perfect.
Make it a secret goal to be self-aware as often as possible.
