What You Recognize
“What you recognize is here already.”
-Sri Atmananda
I had ready that quote many times, when suddenly its importance struck me deeply. He is pointing out that what we are—not what we have been conditioned to believe we are, but what we actually are—exists before anything is recognized.
To recognize is to remember.
To remember is to add a name to a sensation or perception. Therefore everything remembered is false, because memory itself is conditioned knowledge.
There is no reality to conditioned knowledge because your were not born thinking. Every thought you have about any experience is added to the experience.
As you continue watching your mind, you’ll realize that everything you are aware of—every experience you add a name to—is nothing but a mental construct.
In your spare time, pause into silence. Examine that still awareness. Does anything need to be changed or improved … are there any problems?
Be in the space before thought, and witness its quality.
