Nina is snoring.

For years I’ve been wondering why I say or think “that’s hilarious” whenever I notice a thought.

What’s hilarious is that what we actually are is nothing that the body seems to be aware of, including itself.

In every thought, feeling, sensation, or perception, we are the knowing that supports them all.

“The Self is present in all perceptions as the perceiver.” -Ramana Maharshi

Everything the body seems to experience is actually the Self knowing itself.

“… realize there is no connection between your senses and the outside world…” -Pai-chang

He is saying that the body is not the perceiver.

Bodhidharma said, “The body has no awareness.” When you are sitting quietly, not thinking or aware of anything, what are you?

That the body is aware of anything is the primary illusion. And yet the body is essential for the Self to know itself.

This is the craziest thing ever: That without the body the Self couldn’t know itself, but we are not the body.

We are the awareness that the body depends on.

Randomly, throughout the day, pause, and reduce experience to its basic essence: the knowing of it. Then calmly abide in that knowing.

Just be aware.

“You are awareness.” -Ramana Maharshi
